Mark 10:29-30 Quality Investments Jesus said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, there is no one who has given up a house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, who will not receive a hundred times as much now in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms—along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. When I first started walking in this way one thing I understood from get go was that this was going to cost me something, eventually. Initially it doesn’t cost anything to respond to the gospel. God chose by the simplicity (foolishness) of preaching to save them that believe. That doesn’t cost me much of anything. I respond by faith but God has already given me the measure that I need anyway. To repent and ask for forgiveness, that’s pretty much free as well. Then God has promised to give the gift of the Holy Ghost… ok if a gift cost me anything it wouldn’t be a gift after all. Looking back over history and through the New Testament it was evident that everyone that followed after Christ paid the cost. Every apostle paid the price and many early Christians paid with their life. So, if it cost so many people so much why wouldn’t it cost you or me anything? Yet, there are people you will encounter some of them very close to you, friends, and family, just the way I did that will look at this exact verse and use it as a basis to claim, the gospel will never cost anything. It will cost you something. Your return on investment is through the roof though. Even in this life the Lord promises that you will be blessed abundantly over. When you read these verses notice He says you will receive a hundred times as much not a hundred time as many. God doesn’t promise to multiply your quantity but to immensely multiply your quality. For instance, the gospel working in my own brother’s life has made me 10 times the brother I was prior to him allowing God to move in his life. His own life has improved greatly and he has made great strides. Your friends are of a higher quality, your family when serving God together is of a higher quality. Our whole life, people who were connected to any one of our cousins and would get introduced to the rest of our family, would express great admiration for the closeness and quality of relationships our family shared. You know why? Our mothers and aunt’s were gospel involved people. Everything gets better. It’s a promise God cannot lie. He will never owe anyone anything. So, no matter what the implied cost is, give it up and you’ll get it back 100 fold. Then to top it off, you’ll get eternal life.
