In this week’s episode, the focus is on a carefully designed space that aims to be inviting and comfortable for individuals, particularly those engaged in task shopping. The featured space, spanning approximately 1,000 sqft, is housed within a shophouse on Guillemard Road, Singapore. The renovation, overseen by Typeface, transforms the conventional lighting store into an art gallery setting. The shophouse's structure, with its long and narrow layout, is intentionally uncluttered. Curvy booths strategically showcase selected architectural downlights, emphasizing the original shophouse beams and columns, alongside a clean, organic multi-layered ceiling. The entrance, adorned with full-height glass, seamlessly connects the interior to the outdoor selection. A mini landscaping area complements the outdoor lights, demonstrating their impact on exterior spaces. Moving through the showroom, individual curvy booths host different categories of lamps, providing a continuous and seamless shopping experience. The deliberate separation of booths prevents the mixing of colours, temperatures, and light spillage, aiding customers in understanding each lamp category's unique attributes. Meanwhile, the LAB2.1 store, distinguished by its unique entrance, features a monochromatic theme with brutalist and raw elements, creating a distinct contrast to Sol Luminaire. The exposed steel frames and lowered furniture contribute to a laid-back atmosphere, encouraging a communal and relaxed shopping experience. Displaying works by architectural product designer Mario Tsai and the brand A Emotional Light, the LAB2.1 offers an eclectic range of lighting fixtures. The incorporation of marble slabs, glass openings, and large furnishings enhances the overall aesthetic, turning the space into an inviting and stylish environment.
