The Gesashi River in Higashi Village of Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture, depicted in this animation, is home to the largest mangrove forest on Okinawa’s main island, which is designated as a national natural monument. Covering an area of roughly ten hectares at the lower course of the river, the mangrove forest attracts many tourists who come to enjoy popular activities like walking tours or and kayaking down the river.
