On Friday, June 21st from 10-11:30 am EDT the PROTECT Training core hosted the PROTECT Academy Seminar on Big Data Analytics for PROTECT researchers, staff, and trainees to attend. This seminar was a new addition to the PROTECT Academy Interdisciplinary Introductory Seminar Series focused on Environmental Health Disciplines for Non-Experts presented to the PROTECT community in 2013. The purpose of these seminars continues to be to provide non-experts in the topic areas presented with an introduction to the primary concepts, basic terminology, and applicability of that field to the understanding of environmental health problems. The Big Data Analytics seminar started with a high-level overview that includes Big Data tools and techniques. The overview was followed by a discussion of bio-statistics and statistical methods in environmental health which led into an overview on machine learning methods. The seminar concluded with 15 minutes for Q/A.
