Armored Live Fire with U.S. and Allies of NATO Battlegroup in Estonia

NATO troops in Estonia have completed a five-day live-fire exercise aimed at strengthening combat readiness among Allied forces. Against a snow-covered training ground, armoured units from Estonia, France, the United Kingdom and the United States practised shooting targets at variable ranges and manoeuvring in the deep snow in February 2026. The armoured vehicles fielded included Estonian CV90 tanks, French AMX-10 armoured vehicles, British M270 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), Archer 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzers and Challenger 2 tanks, and US M1A2 Abrams tanks. While NATO’s battlegroups regularly train with blank rounds to conserve ammunition, live-fire exercises are necessary to acclimate troops to the look, feel and impact of live ammunition. The United Kingdom leads NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Estonia, which consists of roughly 1,500 troops and personnel from France, Iceland and the United Kingdom. Forces from the United States are stationed in Estonia under a bilateral agreement with the Baltic state, though they often train alongside forces from the NATO battlegroup. #usa #military #nato
