In Luke 10, Jesus gives the same power and authority to the seventy, sending them out with nothing in their hands and promising to supply every need. This episode unpacks what it means to live by faith, the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. Jesus declared plainly, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17–18). Signs do not produce faith. Faith produces obedience, and signs follow those who believe. We examine Hebrews 11 and the faith of those in the Old Testament who pleased God by believing Him, even when they did not yet receive the promise. Enoch walked by faith and pleased God, and Scripture reminds us that without faith it is impossible to please Him. Though they died in faith, God had provided something better for us. Today, believers do not rely on the Spirit coming upon them temporarily. The same Spirit lives within every believer. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. God is not confined, He is an ever-present help.
