Easy DIY Wall Panelling Tutorial, Hallway Transformation Done Cost Effectively Welcome back to my channel! This week’s vlog is all about transforming a plain, boring hallway into something with a little more personality. I’ve always wanted to try wall panelling, but was a bit intimidated by the process. Well, I'm here to tell you—it’s WAY easier than I thought! With a little help from my husband (and some basic tools), we got this project done in no time, and I can’t wait to show you how you can achieve the same amazing results with minimal effort! Materials Needed: MDF boards or wall panels/mouldings Measuring tape Pencil Level Circular Saw (if you need to cut the panels to size) Power drill and screws or nails (depending on what you prefer to use) Wood filler (for covering any screw holes) Paint (optional, if you want to paint the panels) Caulk (to fill gaps around edges, if needed) Sandpaper (for smooth finishes) Step 1: Measure and Plan Your Design Before we got started, we first measured our hallway walls and planned out the size of the panels. The key is to make sure the panels are evenly spaced, so use your measuring tape and level to mark where your panels will go. I opted for a simple grid design, but you can get creative with shapes like herringbone or vertical panels. Step 2: Cut Your Panels to Size (If Needed) I chose MDF boards for this project because they are inexpensive and easy to work with, but you could also use pre-made wall panelling kits if you prefer. Depending on the dimensions of your wall and the design you’ve chosen, you may need to cut the panels to the right size. My husband had a saw handy, so he took care of this part. If you don’t have a saw, many hardware stores will cut materials to size for you. Tip: Always measure twice, cut once. A small mistake can add up, so accuracy is key! Step 3: Mark and Attach the Panels Now that our panels were ready, it was time to get them on the wall! Tip: It’s a good idea to use a stud finder to ensure you're attaching the panels to a solid surface (like the studs in the wall), rather than just the drywall, for added stability. Step 4: Fill in the Gaps Once all the panels were up, we took care of the seams. We used caulk to fill in any noticeable gaps around the edges, and wood filler for any screw holes. Let the wood filler dry and then sand it down to create a smooth finish. Tip: You can also use caulk to fill in tiny gaps between the panels themselves, just to make everything look seamless. Step 5: Paint Your Panels (Optional) I chose to paint our panels in Brown Bunny out of the Valspar Premium paint it’s a beautiful soft brown but you choose any paint you like. Tip: If you're using a dark paint, make sure to apply a primer first to help with coverage and durability. Step 6: Enjoy Your New Wall Panelling! Once the paint is dry and everything is in place, step back and admire your work! The transformation is unbelievable, and it really doesn’t take a lot of time or effort. Honestly, this project gave our hallway so much character, and I feel like it totally elevated the space without breaking the bank!
