Another flight over Dunston Staiths. I didn't get any intro or outro as some guy started to talk to me when I was packing away. Still, it was nice to have a chat with him. A bit of history to this structure? Well, I'll try and pull this all from memory, so I apologise if anything is wrong. This peir structure was where coal, from the many mines in the North East, was unloaded onto ships on the river Tyne. I believe it's one of the largest wooden structures in Europe, or it was. When the coal mining industry came to an end this would have been abandoned. I remember it, and the surrounding wasteland was redeveloped into a festival in the 80s or 90s. once that was over the land was developed into housing. you can see all that in the background. Quite a maze and not really possible to get to the staiths that way as it's all resident parking. I parked up by some social club, and wandered along to the shore, hoping my car would still be there when I got back. It actually was open to the public to wander along. Of course some berk decided to set fire to it and that ruined it for everyone. It's all locked up now and nature has started to take over. you can see a few trees taking root on the top.
