Native sheep from islands with a Norse heritage will be featured at events in this year's Orkney International Science Festival (4-10 September 2025). Speakers will highlight new opportunities for wool and meat, building on traditional strengths. It's an initiative from the island of North Ronaldsay, renowned for its seaweed-eating sheep, and there will be news of the latest developments in the island. There will be information about the revival of traditional Faroese jumpers and about the use of computer-aided knitting in the Aran Islands. There will also be an opportunity to see a cloak in Norse style made in Berneray, and to learn how to cook Icelandic lamb the traditional way.
