Join us for the second and final part of an epic hike on the Kumano Kodo pilgrim trail in the Kii Peninsula, Japan. Part 1 is here: • Kumano Kodo - Takijiri Oji to Hongu Taisha . Kumano Kodo (熊野古道)is an ancient pilgrimage route some thousand years old located on the Kii peninsula in Wakayama Prefecture. The route is made up of different trails meandering through thick woodland which take in some major shrines, oji and onsen. Throughout history, it has been frequented by commoners and nobility, including emperors. As there was a Japanese holiday for help the aged and autumn equinox we decided to utilise this long weekend and give it a go. Actually, it has been on the to do list for a while. The pilgrimage network is a UNESCO world heritage entity; it is twinned with the Camino De Santiago in Europe. You can get hold of a passport for collecting stamps, from tourist offices with one side for the Kumano Kodo and the other for the Camino. On completing both, it is possible to obtain a double pilgrim certificate. https://www.tb-kumano.jp/en/ Music: www.bensound.com, Epidemic Sound
