“Len Maurice” was born Leonard Arthur Morris in South Melbourne, Victoria March 10th 1900. He was the second youngest of 10 children (5 boys-5 girls) No TV in those days! Len started working in the family cabinet making business in Albert Park. Soon after show business called him and he joined the Grand Opera Co. in his teens. He changed his name to Len Maurice in 1918, and sometimes recorded as Art Leonard (note his birth name). He married in 1919 and shortly thereafter the couple moved to Brisbane to be with the JC Williamson Co. Len made many recordings for Columbia in the Homebush studios Sydney, usually Len Maurice on the 4/- Columbia records and Art Leonard on the 2/6 Regal records. A trick by gramophone companies to confuse buyers back in the day.Len retired to Melbourne in early 1950’s and bought a Hotel. Whilst making alterations he suffered a heart attack and died in 1952. On this recording in Sydney Len Maurice (as Art Leonard) sings with Novelty Orchestra July 1st 1930. The song is “Minnie’s Yoo Hoo”. Recorded for Regal Matrix #WT973
