Tambomachay _ CUSCO Tambomachay or Tampumachay is an Inca archaeological site whose name means "place of rest". It has an extension of approximately half a hectare and the material used for its construction is limestone with polygonal style rigging. Tambomachay is known as the temple of water due to the existence of two aquaducts that carry crystalline water all year round. The water comes from a mountain called Catumki located 5 km from the archaeological center. It is an archaeological site dedicated to the spirit of water and according to historians it was a place of spiritual cleansing before entering to the Puma city of Cusco. In Inca times it was a privilege to visit the city of Cusco. In addition, it is said that in this archaeological complex one could find a royal garden, whose irrigation system came from a whole system of channels made with a lot of dedication. It is also thought that it could have been one of the military bases before the entrance to the whole valley of Cusco, this is due to the tower that exists in its constructions. The same that would have served as a control post for the people that came from the Antisuyo. This archaeological complex is a typical construction of the imperial Inca period, with large walls, ceremonial niches and trapezoidal niches of great magnitude for its mallquis (Inca mummies), stone carved and polished with incredible skill. The system of channels is the main attraction. These channels not only transport water, but they does so with spectacular accuracy. As an example of this, there is a main waterfall which forks into 2 secondary waterfalls that have perfectly equal flows. This complex is located 5 kilometers from the city of Cusco and 3700 meters above sea level between some hills that are covered with a specific type of grass (in Quechua "ichu"). In certain seasons the "llaullit'ica" and the "Cantu" appear, as well as beautiful flowers of various colors. #inkayniperutours #tambomachay #cusco
