Welcome To Sanquhar Castle. Sanquhar Castle can be located in Sanquhar, Dumfries Galloway, Scotland. Wee bit of History about Sanquhar Castle:- Sanquhar Castle was built in the 13th century by the Chricton Family. The castle had many visitors such as Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, Edward the 1st, Mary Queen of Scots & James the 5th. In the mid 17th century the castle was sold to William Douglas (the first Duke of Queensferry) who established the castle made of sandstone Drumlanrig Castle. From that period of time the castle was left in ruins until 1895. The 3rd Marques of Bute, bought the land and tried restoring the castle. The project got took over by Robert Weir Schultz. But work ended after the death of Marquess in 1900, the castle was then left in ruins ever since. However many people have reportedly said that the castle is haunted, people say the white lady spirit was a young golden haired woman named Marion of Dalepeddar, who disappeared 1590. The skeleton was found during the excavation in 1875 - 1876, this was linked to the ghost story of this castle.
