An Ancient Qiang necklace – with all indications that it predates the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, possibly from the Xia. Handed down, from Chief to son, through probably 200 generations via the Burma Haka Chin branch. Appears to be in its original configuration, with all indications that it was made in Ancient China. Undoubtedly, it is one that bears a distinct Clan symbol – resembling the ‘Leiwen’ or thundercloud symbol on one side, and the cross/chevron symbol on the other. We traced the latter to Paleolithic Ukraine – to at least 18,000 BC. where the symbols were carved on mammoth ivory objects which closely resemble striations known as Schreger lines found on mammoth tusks. Our study fully explains this, and the links are in the description. The rest of the necklace comprises 78 beads which we call ‘eye’ beads. They are in fact lozenge shaped with dots at the centre – another symbol found on mammoth ivory striations and carvings. The Leiwen symbol is found throughout the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, on pottery, jade, bronze artifacts. We have even found a very rare example on oracle bone inscriptions. The ‘eye’ or lozenge symbol is also found on the previously mentioned artifacts. The usual tests are necessary to authenticate an original ancient bead and we show some of these in this presentation. Typology, surface and hole wear, drilling methods, any fluorescence under shortwave UVC light. Cameras used: Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2; iPhone 13 Pro Max Our collection is available for study at any reputable institution.
