Subrahmanyam, a former driver from Kakinada, has taken a controversial turn with the conduct of Lakshmi Durga, who is named as the A2 accused in the case. Appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as per High Court orders, she reportedly showed a non-cooperative attitude throughout the inquiry. During nearly seven hours of questioning—from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM—SIT officer Manish Devaraj Patil posed over 30 questions. However, apart from stating her name and her husband’s name, Lakshmi Durga gave evasive responses such as “I don’t know,” “I don’t remember,” and “I forgot” to most key questions, allegedly attempting to derail the investigation. She reportedly failed to provide clear answers even to basic questions, including her whereabouts on the night of the murder, her location over the past 15 days, and her phone number. Despite police claiming to have technical evidence placing her at the crime scene, she stated that she had gone to a hospital to attend to her unwell brother. Officials noted that even when confronted with evidence, she remained composed and did not change her responses. As the first round of questioning was inconclusive, the entire process was video recorded, and she has been asked to appear again for further inquiry. Meanwhile, the conduct of the police has also drawn criticism. Allegations surfaced that the accused was treated like a VIP rather than a suspect, as her vehicle was allowed directly into the SDPO office premises, violating standard protocols. Additionally, after the inquiry, supporters of Anantha Babu reportedly pushed aside constables while escorting her, with police remaining passive—fueling further controversy. Political analysts suggest that such responses from accused individuals linked to previous Government may reflect a pattern—where key figures consistently claim ignorance to avoid accountability.
