(1 Jul 1999) Albanian/Nat K-FOR has been securing the site of another suspected massacre in Kosovo. German troops believe the bodies of around 120 people are lying in unmarked graves or in the ashes of their homes in the village of Selina, near Prizren. Selina lies in the northeastern sector administered by German troops. On Wednesday they found clear signs that something terrible had happened here. Several areas of the village, where dozens of bodies are believed to lie in shallow graves, have been cordoned off so the evidence will remain undisturbed until the arrival of forensic experts. Talking to local people, K-FOR troops are beginning to piece together what happened. Serb soldiers are understood to have arrived here on March 25 as part of "Operation Horseshoe", a military-run ethnic cleansing operation. The soldiers surrounded the village and murdered many of its inhabitants in a frenzy of violence. SOUNDBITE: (German) "The village was surrounded by Serb forces, the population tried to flee to the hill behind me, but they were stopped by Serb forces" SUPER CAPTION: Dieter Runke, German Army spokesman Those who managed to escape returned to find a scene of devastation. SOUNDBITE: (Albanian) "We came back three days later and we found bodies here so we buried them. SUPER CAPTION: Massacre survivor UPSOUND: (Albanian) "The bodies of six brothers are buried here" SUPERCAPTION: Massacre survivor K-FOR soldiers have been instructed to preserve evidence of massacres in Kosovo so the international war crimes tribunal at The Hague can lay charges against those responsible.
