With load shifting, EVs can avoid stressing the grid, and with vehicle to grid capability, EVs can support the grid. A number of club-members have solar with a battery and are compensated to participate in a Virtual Power Plant program where the utilities can tap some of the stored energy during high-demand periods. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is the same idea, only with larger vehicle batteries. It is part of how we can add efficiency and resiliency to the grid. And as with VPP, consumers can get paid to help. The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has approved a V2G pilot project, offered through Eversource and United Illuminating. Participants are being enrolled now. At this time, only the Kia EV9 is eligible who live in single family or small multi-family (max 4 units) can participate. There are ongoing discussions with other manufacturers. It is likely that more options will be added, though we may not know by the date of the meeting. We hope you can join us for what promises to be an enlightening event about the charging frontier. What is the design of the V2G pilot program? What are the financial incentives available for installation and ongoing participation?
