My Hornby Peckett locomotive collection running on the layout The locomotives are R3703 W4 class 0-4-0ST bear R3640 W4 class 0-4-0ST Niclausse R3686 W4 class 0-4-0ST Huntley and Palmers R3693 Class B2 Peckett 0-6-0ST No.4 Sherwood I’ve found these locomotives to be one of Hornby’s better locomotives with no QC or motor problems the only issue I have had on two of the W4 Peckett’s is the pickups not working out of the box giving poor running The issue was too much grease and oil applied at the factory that makes its way onto the backs of the wheels and the pickups causing poor electrical connection. The solution was to remove the base keeper plate and clean all the oil and grease off the locomotive with Isopropyl Alcohol and a cotton bud. when it was all clean I used a small amount of model oil and adjusted the pickups so they made good contact with the backs of the wheels.
