Belfast: Sixty People Treated For Drug Effects Seven young people are taken to hospital and another 53 treated for the effects of drink and drugs at a concert in Belfast. Sky's Ireland Correspondent David Blevins said the youngsters were attending a concert by Dutch DJ Hardwell when they fell ill. He said: "We're told at this stage that only some of those young people have had to be transferred to hospital. "But a number of Belfast hospitals are being put on alert and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has declared this a major incident." Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesman John McPoland said the majority of those affected were suffering from too much alcohol and a major incident was declared because of the number of resources needed at the scene. 60 youngsters taken ill at concert Ambulances lined up outside the Odyssey arena to treat casualties Michael Copeland, an Ulster Unionist member of the Northern Ireland Assembly, said an eyewitness described the scene as "horrendous". He said: "It was an event for 16-18-year-olds and around 60 young people have gotten themselves into difficulties with alcohol. A number have been taken to hospital." Last month, dozens of fans camped overnight or queued for hours in the pouring rain for tickets to DJ Hardwell's show at the arena. He was named the world's number one DJ in the 2013 DJ Mag Top 100 poll, with hits including Spaceman and Apollo. 60 youngsters taken ill at concert Medics treated victims outside Belfast's biggest concert venue A statement from Odyssey Arena General Manager Adrian Doyle said: "It is our understanding that a number of patrons arriving at the Odyssey Arena to attend a concert by Dutch DJ act 'Hardwell' have required medical attention, having arrived intoxicated at the Odyssey Complex. "These patrons were not granted entry to the Odyssey Arena, and were treated by the ambulance service outside. Seven patients have been transferred to hospital by ambulance.
