It has come to my attention J1407b was essentially debunked, I apologize because in my time of research I did not come across anything saying that it was completely debunked but I should've looked for more recent papers done on it. However, I do still think the concept of something like this is super cool and still think it was a great ideas for this series. Welcome, to the third installment of Fun Exoplanet Friday where each week I will do a deep dive and talk about the exoplanet of the week picked out either by me or you, the community. This week, we’re talking about J1407b, and its ring system is no joke. Its rings are thought to be 90 million km long and to put that into perspective the distance of the Sun to the Earth is about 149 million km. So far it has the largest ring system we have ever discovered but for the planet itself it has about 10-40 times Jupiters mass. If it is on the higher end of mass it's thought to actually be a brown dwarf planet, a failed star.
