DOM 101 - This 10 minute video is a “how to” guide of the initial set up of binoculars and diopters on a dental operating microscope. . . One of the challenges many face with adjusting to using a dental operating microscope is the learning curve associated with of having to look forward through binoculars while operating on a tooth. Traditional Galilean loupes use mechanics of converging line of sight which is very different than stereopsis (parallel line of sight) provided with an operating microscope. Although prismatic loupes provide a more similar mechanism to the scope, the downside is the necessary heavy weight of the loupes and the need to tip the head forward and down while operating. Ergonomics is one of the greatest benefits of using an operating microscope in dentistry... an investment in your health. Using an operating microscope with correctly adjusted diopters is an important part of easing the learning curve and retraining the eyes and the mind while working on a patient. . . . .
