Shri Madhyamaheshwar Temple Trek, also known as Madmaheshwar Trek — the 2nd of the Panch Kedar Yatra in Uttarakhand — begins from Ransi Village, a quaint hamlet near Ukhimath. Perched at an altitude of 11,500 feet, Madmaheshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the navel or middle part of Lord Shiva appeared here, hence the name Madhyamaheshwar. The Madmaheshwar Yatra is not directly accessible by road. To reach Madmaheshwar Trek, one must first travel to Ukhimath and then proceed to Ransi Village. From here, the trekking adventure begins. The trail from Ransi winds through enchanting forests and along pristine rivers, offering a divine and spiritual experience. The total distance of the Madmaheshwar Trek from Ransi is approximately 16 km one way. The first 6 km descends gradually, while the next 10 km presents a challenging ascent. Your first stop after Ransi Village is Gaundar, a small village on the banks of the Madhuganga River. From Gaundar, you trek to Bantoli, just 1 km ahead, which is divided into Lower and Upper Bantoli. Accommodation along the Madmaheshwar Temple Trek is limited but charming, with basic homestays available in Gaundar and Bantoli. Near the temple itself, simple guesthouses provide shelter to pilgrims. The ideal time for undertaking the Madmaheshwar Yatra is between May–June and September–October. During winter, heavy snowfall renders the trek impassable.
