Dr. Nita Farahany presents Memories and Lies in Law at the Colloquium on Law, Neuroscience, and Criminal Justice on March 14 -- 15, 2013. Dr. Farahany is a Professor of Law, Professor of Genome Sciences & Policy, and Professor of Philosophy at Duke University. The colloquium was sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Law and Neuroscience and co-sponsored by the Federal Judicial Center, Vanderbilt Law School, Stanford Center for Law and the Biosciences, and the Gruter Institute for Law and Behavioral Research. Description and Learning Objectives: Description and Learning Objectives: This session will introduce the Research Network's research on memory detection using fMRI, and explore the legal implications of detection of memories and lies. Specific learning objectives include: • Discussion of cases in which brain-based lie detection evidence has been proffered. • Discussion of the constitutionality of brain-based lie detection and memory detection methods.
