Fire Water Balloon experiment For this experiment you'll need: • A tumbler or a jug of water • Candle • Couple of balloons • Matchbox or a lighter PROCEDURE FOR FIRE WATER BALLOON EXPERIMENT: Firstly, Place a candle on a table or any surface. Light the candle. Blow the balloon. Now, slowly lower the belly of the balloon vertically towards the flame of the candle. Observe what happens? The balloon bursts in sometime. Now take another balloon. Fill it with little water and now blow air in it. Now lower the water balloon above the burning candle. Take a closer look! What did u observe? The balloon doesn't burst. Try this experiment with some more water in the balloon or some more balloons. EXPLANATION: In every case, the balloon does not burst like it did when it was filled with just air inside. This is because Water is a good conductor of heat. When the balloon is placed above the burning candle, the heat from the candle flame is absorbed by water inside the balloon and keeps the balloon from bursting out. This is how the balloon sustains the heat generated by the candle flame. When the balloon has just air inside, it gets heated up quickly and bursts.
