Yessirree, it’s time to shut down some art with a little pickin’ and pedantry: that’s right, it’s continuity time, baybayyy! While basically all films contain all sorts of whoopsies and mistakes that might make the audience cringe, there is truly nothing worse than a break in continuity within the narrative as we (the audience) are forced to accept time and time again a disappearing rope a la Frozen or changing eye color a la The Lion King. It’s a horrific thing to witness: there you are, sittin’ in the theater like Nicole Kidman in that weird AMC commercial when BAM! Mrs. Otterton’s purse magically disappears between shots in Zootopia or Captain Hook’s hook – the most important part of his ENTIRE character, by the way – switches hands willy nilly. Sure, some might look at the self-repairing door knob in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as a harmless gaffe, but is it? Is it REALLY? Or, and just stay with me here, maybe it’s a mistake so egregious as to completely decimate any chance of the film serving any artistic value? Yeah, that seems about right.
