Supose, you are a pipeline engineer working in a Natural Gas Transmission pipeline project. You have to evaluate a design of pipeline done by your team members using CFD. The diameter of the pipeline D= 0.3m and it is horizontal to the ground and the ground level. The pipeline length is nearly 1,000 KM, but you’ll only constrain your study on 8m length of the pipeline segment. The maximum allowable operating pressure for the pipeline P=500 psi (3500000 Pa). The material of transportation is natural gas and the temperature T=20oC throughout the pipeline. The material of the pipeline you have selected is Carbon Steel. Assume your flow is turbulent and you have to use k-epsilon turbulence model. Also assume the pipeline is a stationary wall and there is no slip at the boundary wall of the pipeline. Based on the problem above develop a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model using ANSYS-FLUENT and show the following: 1. Develop the vector profile and attach with the result 2. Develop a velocity contour at XY plane and identify the maximum velocity of the gas flow 3. Develop the velocity profile at the exit of the pipeline at XY line. Export the file and redraw the profile with MS excel. Discuss your result such as, the shape of the profile.
