Spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is a rare, neurological disorder that makes speaking difficult because the vocal cords spasm when a person speaks, causing the voice to either sound choked, strangled, or breathy. The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a patient advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with spasmodic dysphonia. The NSDA is the only organization solely committed to finding new treatments, the cause, and ultimately, the cure for spasmodic dysphonia, through programs of research, education, awareness, advocacy, and support.
