In today's lecture on Complete Denture, I have discussed about the unfortunate condition of Edentulism or the Edentulous state. And what are the possible problems faced by the patient and what can be the treatment options that cab be given to a patient suffering form edentulism? Hello everyone. The edentulous state is a condition in which the patient loses his entire dentition and is left with no teeth in their mouth. This patient is said to be suffering from edentulism. Which patient are effected by edentulism? Edentulism mostly occurs in aged people, who don't take care of their oral hygiene. Unfortunately the edentulous state can also occur in young people suffering from Anodontia or hypodontia. What are the treatment options? Possible treatment options for a edentate patient will include a conventional complete denture, (A complete denture in which retention is obtained via adhesion cohesion, extensions, intimate contact etc.), or an Implant supported complete denture or an overdenture. The decision that which complete denture is best for the patient depends on a number of factors, such as patient's age, health, bone condition, the amount the patient is willing to spend and many other.
