The victim, Ramachandran (24 yrs), a milk vendor from Ramanayakkanpatti (near Nilakottai, Dindigul), was hacked to death by his father-in-law.Ramachandran had married Aarthi (21 yrs) three months ago. Their inter-caste marriage was opposed by Aarthi’s family. On the day of the incident, while Ramachandran was travelling to collect milk, he was stopped by his father-in-law Chandran (49 yrs) near Ganapathipatti. An argument ensued and Chandran allegedly used a sickle to attack and killed Ramachandran on the spot. The police have arrested Chandran. Aarthi claims other relatives (her brother, uncles) might also have been involved.
