It leads to motor disorders such as akinesia, bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, and resting tremor. These symptoms are related to an imbalance between the neuronal pathways controlling movement: the direct (facilitatory) pathway and the indirect (inhibitory) pathway. Dopamine deficiency deactivates the direct pathway and strengthens the indirect pathway, which reduces overall motor activity.
