Automation Designer – Tutorial 2.2 – Using eCl@ss

This video is part of a tutorial series showing a collaborative automation design, a multidisciplinary engineering approach, using the Automation Designer from Siemens. This video shows the workflow of importing eCl@ss classified product data and of creating a product within the reuse library of Automation Designer based on the imported eCl@ss data. eCl@ss is an ISO/IEC standard for reference datasets with classification aspects and unique descriptions of products and services. The eCl@ss descriptions of products can be downloaded from the websites of many manufactures. In this project, eCl@ss product files are imported to create products in the reuse library of the Automation Designer. This significantly reduces the effort required to create the product data and also ensures that the products in the reuse library are error-free. This video explains the basic procedure using a Siemens product as an example. The Automation Designer of NX 12 and eCl@ss version 9.1 were used in this project. This video has been created by a student team project during the summer semester 2019 in the master program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology M.Sc. of the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt.
