Raising the roof! Porch post and 2x12 header beam install (then finishing our trusses and blocking)

In our last video we got most of the roof trusses spread out and secured. But in the section over the door, the ends of the trusses rest on the header beam so we needed to install this first. The beam is held up by a 6x6 post on a pier footing that we poured way back. Getting the post up went ok but it took some ingenuity to figure out how to raise the 2x12 built-up beam into the beam pocket and up onto the post. About Us: For a long time, Terry and I have been dreaming of a simpler life for ourselves- an off-grid cabin, wilderness, gardening, livestock, homesteading and lots of adventures.
