TL;DW Executive Summary: Games of chance are fundamentally different from games of incomplete information where optimal decision making impacts outcome and EV Even when acting randomly, some traders will become "consistently" profitable and preach their winnings to others as if they know what they are doing Professional traders may act optimally, and their edge may be well defined and well traded, unfortunately they are in the same pool as these other folks in that it is near impossible to confirm or reject from cursory performance measures Discerning if you are acting optimally is not a trivial task and past performance isn't indicative of future outcomes, signal decays, statistical mispricings are corrected, so on and so forth (there is no such thing as a one man set-and-forget quant/hedge fund) Folks suggesting they have a holy grail money printing strategy day trading are lying and trying to sell you some trading lessons Ironically, if gurus teach 1,000 people some will necessarily (statistically) randomly become "consistently profitable" which will enable these gurus to parade around cherry picked results and tell other students they just "weren't dedicated" or "didn't understand the course" I hope you enjoyed!
