At our first Partner Workshop of the year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Andreea Gheorghe, Director of International Affairs at Mended Hearts Europe, who shared valuable insights into building structured patient advocacy and peer support models across Europe. The session highlighted how patient communities can be strengthened through a combination of education, structured peer support, and system-aware implementation. Key takeaways included: Why the moment of diagnosis is often the most vulnerable phase for patients How peer support can complement — not replace — clinical care The importance of structured volunteer training, evaluation frameworks, and sustainability from day one Lessons learned from implementation efforts in France and Northern Ireland A central message was clear: Clinical care is essential — but it is not always enough. Structured peer-to-peer support fills the human gap and builds stronger, more resilient patient communities.
