I couldn't find a fast way to take a complex shape with strokes and knock them out to produce a clean vector of only the visible shapes. This is what I came up with and it seems a lot simpler than the advice I was able to find online. Here's the steps if you are in a hurry: 1. Select your illustration and copy it. 2. Rasterize the copy at 600 dpi 3. Use live trace, set for Black and White Logo 4. Expand and remove the white. Optionally: 5. If needed, make the vectors a compound path, then inset the path by a tiny amount and use the inner shapes. If you know an easier method that produces better results I'm eager to hear about them in the comments. Thanks for watching.
