Cultidelta is a Mediterranean nursery based in Amposta, Catalonia, Spain, about 200 kilometres south of Barcelona. Founded in 1999 on just half a hectare of land, it began with an ambitious vision of truly sustainable gardening. From the outset, the team set out to establish close working relationships with landscape architects, public sector technicians and contractors to involve them in the early stages of each project. At first, the response was often sceptical: ‘How can a nursery advise us?’ But, step by step, Cultidelta demonstrated the value of its knowledge-based approach and grew steadily. Today, the nursery's production covers 11.5 hectares, divided into two production centres. One centre has experimental gardens where Mediterranean species are tested under different conditions: orientation, water stress, slope and soil type. This research allows the team not only to supply plants, but also to understand them in depth and offer accurate, experience-based advice. Cultidelta currently operates in around 30 countries. Its main markets are in Europe (especially Spain, France, Portugal and Italy), but also in Morocco, Angola, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai and Thailand. The team advises on environmental projects such as reforestation, river restoration, dune stabilisation and revegetation associated with civil infrastructure, as well as large public and private gardens. Its clients include internationally renowned landscape architects such as Piet Oudolf, Tom Stuart-Smith, Luciano Giubbilei, Thomas Doxiadis, Michel Desvigne and Tom de Witte, and leading companies such as AECOM, LOLA Landscape Architects, Atkins and Parsons. Enric and Oriol share how the company has pioneered this new approach to landscaping. In an industry where many offer quick, ‘magical’ solutions, Cultidelta is committed to creating planting strategies that use resources responsibly and are technically sound, resilient and realistic in the long term. They also share a selection of high-performance species, based on their many years of observing plants in nature, in their experimental gardens, in the gardens they visit and create, and in the day-to-day running of the nursery.
