In this final segment of Cleve Gaddis’s interview with Rev. Melanie Connor, CEO of Rainbow Village, the focus shifts to the long-term journey of families transitioning out of homelessness and how the community can provide support. Holistic Support for Lasting Change Melanie explains that providing housing is just the first step. Rainbow Village focuses on five core areas to ensure long-term stability: Mental Health: Professional assessments and ongoing counseling to address trauma. Career and Education: Helping parents find stable employment and ensuring children are thriving in school. Financial Literacy: Teaching families how to manage money and repair credit. Family Well-being: Monitoring physical health and overall family dynamics. The "Beyond the Village" Journey Families can stay in the program for up to two years. However, the support doesn't end there. The Thrive Program continues to follow families for one to three years after they move out, offering guidance and even small rent subsidies to help them adjust to market-rate housing. How the Community Can Help Cleve and Melanie discuss several ways realtors and community members can support Rainbow Village: Advocacy: Speaking up for affordable housing initiatives in Metro Atlanta. Education: Professionals can volunteer to speak to families about the home-buying process and financial readiness. Donations: Financial contributions or setting aside a portion of home sale commissions to support the village's mission. Melanie shares a touching success story of a woman who, after losing her partner and taking in her late sister’s two children, went through the program and is now preparing to move into her own home through Habitat for Humanity.
