The river Minho is a natural border between the north of Portugal and the region of Galicia in Spain. The river’s cross-border territory, which is comprised of natural spaces with a rich biodiversity and environment, is jointly managed by the two countries. However, it has been difficult to achieve smooth cross-border cooperation in this region in terms of management of these areas. National differences in the administration of these areas and a lack of coordination prevent the managing authorities from fully protecting and promoting these shared natural spaces.
