Discovering the Untouched Beauty of Easo Village, Lifou, New Caledonia

Welcome to our five-month travel adventure. These next series of videos cover PART TWO of our trip, traveling by boat from Seattle, WA across the Pacific Ocean and around Australia. Today we travel to the village of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. Notre Dame de Lourdes The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was built in 1898 by Catholic missionaries who landed in Lifou in 1858 to evangelize the people. The Pilou The traditional dance of the people of New Caledonia is the pilou, a round dance that tells Kanak stories. The pilou is a central part of Kanak gatherings, where it's used to share messages and legends. Church of St Francis Xavier Located on the side of the road, this church with its remarkable architecture is built on the site of the very first Catholic mission on the island, the Saint-François-Xavier mission, established in 1858. Snorkeling There is some great snorkeling to discover small, colorful fish but beware of the sharp coral. Thank you for watching. In our next video we discover Nouméa, New Caledonia.
