Track 2 from their sixth album “Hemispheres” released in 1978 copyright Anthem Records and their second recorded at Rockfield Studios in the countryside near Rockfield, Monmouthshire, Wales. Vocals were added later at Advision Studios in London. Neil Peart’s concept was the quest for balance between heart and mind, represented by the equal yet opposite sides of the human brain. The Gods of Greek mythology were also used to illustrate the point. I became emotional working on these uploads because I hadn’t listened to the deep cuts on this album in forty years, although it’s right there in my vinyl collection! I was soon reminded that it’s one of their best and hearing such phenomenal music, coupled with the memories it stirred of being eighteen again, brought a tear to my eye. In the seventies, serious young rock musicians the world over all wanted to sound like this incredible trio. Their mastery of their instruments and great songwriting inspired a generation. The album received excellent reviews and reached No. 14 in Canada & the U.K. and No. 47 on the Billboard chart. It went Silver in the U.K. and Platinum in Canada and the U.S. Recorded from the original limited-edition red vinyl. This was their fourth album cover designed by Hugh Syme, who would be involved with all their subsequent releases. Written by Neil Peart, Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson and produced by Rush & Terry Brown. RIP Neil Peart. Featuring: Geddy Lee – Lead vocals, bass, Minimoog, Oberheim polyphonic & Moog Taurus bass pedals synthesizers Alex Lifeson– Lead, rhythm, acoustic, 12-string electric, 12-string acoustic & classical guitars, Roland guitar synthesizer & Moog Taurus bass pedals synthesizer Neil Peart – Drums, orchestra bells, wind chimes, bell tree, tympani, gong, cowbell, temple blocks & crotales A boy alone so far from home Endless rooftops from my window I felt the gloom of empty rooms On rainy afternoons Sometimes in confusion I felt so lost and disillusioned Innocence gave me confidence To go up against reality All the same we take our chances Laughed at by time, tricked by circumstances Plus la change, plus c’est la meme chose The more that things change The more they stay the same Now I’ve gained some understanding Of the only world that we see Things that I once dreamed of Have become reality These walls that still surround me Still contain the same old me Just one more who’s searching for The world that ought to be All the same we take our chances Laughed at by time, tricked by circumstances Plus la change, plus c’est la meme chose The more that things change The more they stay the same All the same we take our chances Laughed at by time, tricked by circumstances Plus la change, plus c’est la meme chose The more that things change The more they stay the same
