Rose Rock Daughters - "Flee As A Bird" (Official Music Video) Our PaPa has always been an animal lover. When we visit him and Nana, we often have the opportunity to watch the many birds that come to splash and drink in their bird bath and take up residence in their trees. One of Papa’s rescue animals, Socks (the barn cat), has given way to her hunting instinct and has found she loves fresh dove meat. The plump, slow-moving doves seem oblivious to this furry predator that crouches to pounce on them at any given moment. Most of the time, Socks comes away victorious with her victim locked in her jaws. Every once in a while, Papa will come across a bird that has been injured or a baby bird that was unsuccessful in its first flight attempt. In its desperate and weary state, the wounded or weak bird is willing to allow PaPa to rescue it and take it to a safe spot on his property where he will watch over it. This is the picture that comes to mind when we hear or sing the hymn “Flee as a Bird.” The words remind us that it is the “self-sufficient” sinner who is lulled into a false sense of security and does not see his need for forgiveness and does not search for safety from the avenger. It is the desperate sinner who is weary and broken for his sin that seeks cleansing and finds shelter in the bosom of the Savior, Jesus Christ. “Flee as a Bird” is part of a compilation of hymns you can find on our newest album, “God of the Mountain,” that was inspired by the life of Moses.
