Robin Hood - Legend Quest, C64 conversion by Digital Design and published by Codemasters in 1992. Original Amstrad release developed by the Oliver Twins. "In the ancient heart of olde England, the Sheriff of Nottingham ruled his people with a fist of iron. While the good King Richard crusaded, the Sheriff extorted higher and higher taxes from the poor folk of the land. Those who dared complain were thrown in the castle dungeons to rot. Only one man could save them. A legend amongst men known only as Robin Hood. Once a noble man with land, servants and livestock, Hood becomes an outlaw and vows to defend the helpless, protect the needy and right evil. But the Hood's first quest was not for the people, it was to rescue his beloved Marion!" First off, I believe this game is not completable. I say this as the Spectrum version is and one of the gems collectable in that version is not appearing in or around the same spot of the C64 game. It should appear in the right most corner here (45:01) Everything else between the two versions line up. Due to lack of gems you cant save Marion at the end of the game. Another notable bug is the Ball and wagon wheel cant hurt you. Maybe not a bug but there is also no extra lives to earn in this version. Original Tape version is being played. Robin Hood - Legend Quest is a budget game from Codemasters developed by the Oliver Twins with the C64 conversion developed by the duo Ash and Dave. As spectrum games go, this was quite a good one for a budget game in 1993 at the very end of the 8 bit era and good for 128 and 48k owners alike noting that the 48k owner missed out on Addams family which isn't too dissimilar. But the C64 conversion? well it looks alright with mixed hi and low res sprites and plenty of colour but it sure has problems. The game is multiload and split into two parts. The game is a platform puzzler much like the previous Super Robin Hood game but much more refined and smoother running. The controls are a bit janky and can take some getting used to as some actions like jumping and sliding require building momentum and a quick flic of the wrist. The requires you to run across the platforms collecting keys in order to unlock doors and hidden walls. Along the way are Stolen Treasures to collect and you need them all to rescue Marion at the end of the game. There are also some hidden (invisible) switches that can unlock ladders or passages and I find these particularly annoying and poor gameplay design. You only know you triggers one when the game pings to indicate you found it. Overall, it's good for a budget released game, but the collision detection can and will catch you out especially with flickering projectiles. Of course the game breaking bug of the missing treasure ultimately ruins you day but otherwise its not a pad run and jump platforming item collecting game. As the game cant be completed I do enter a cheat ($1E37=0) at the end to have all items collected allowing me to save Marion and show the ending. Afterwards I show the level warp to Part 2 which even marks all treasures up to that point as collected. I cobbled the video together from different runs so there is a score mismatch at the end as I initially stopped recording after cheating the game. 00:00:00 Title Music 00:01:35 Part 1 00:19:05 Part 2 00:47:40 Not completable --------------------------- 00:48:32 Cheating to get the ending 00:49:20 Warp to Part 2
