Driving through Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park looking for wildlife and enjoying the scenery is a popular thing to do. In fact, this is the most visited attraction in the park. We arrived early (around 8:00 am) for our visit and managed to see three black bears, several turkeys, a group of piliated woodpeckers and a few other critters. The mountain laurel was in full bloom so we also stopped to take in some of the flora along the way. We made two passes through the scenic loop and then exited via the Rich Mountain Road into Townsend. The Rich Mountain Road is a gravel, one-way road and is a beautiful drive - highly recomended and is "passenger car friendly".
