Classic TV Theme: The Long Hot Summer

The stories of William Faulkner were made into a successful motion picture, 1958's 'The Long Hot Summer'. This 1965 series was an attempt to bring Faulkner to weekly television. Some fine performances by the cast, with Roy Thinnes almost too good as Ben Quick. Star Edmund O'Brien didn't like the focus shifting to Ben and quit the show half-way through. Daniel O'Herlihy (usually credited as 'Dan') was equal to the task of taking over his role. But audiences were not interested; the show ended up ranking somewhere below #70.
