As digitised 2025-11 from PAL (50hz) VHS cassette as provided by Apple when you purchased the original Newton MessagePad 100 device. The aim of this video is to preserve the contents but also educate on the incredible advancements in technology. From my perspective the input to a touchscreen alone are evident as we see the stylus being required and one input at time is registered (no two finger taps!). And from a connectivity perspective it was completely normal for all outgoing messages to be saved on the device into an outbox, ready to be sent when you arrived home or to the office and docked your Newton so that it could use your PC just to send the message / email / fax. Packet data was an add-on reserved only for business use and at great cost. The Newton was supported by an exceptionally detailed "Toolkit" or development platform that I have studied and also archived (by scanning the contents). It was clear to me that the vision and expectations of the device was too perfect. Something like a Calendar event had so much detail in it, you could save notes and attachments when I would expect the first time user of a device like this would be more wanting to put 5pm Drinks with John (not plan a full meeting on it).
