The Teotihuacán Pyramids were magical & amazing! The town however, not so much. It’s the only magic town I’ve ever felt even slightly unsafe in. We weren’t there long, and we were absolutely targeted. One time we even had to duck into a bakery bc some guys were throwing things at us and whistling at us, which we both know to be a tactic people use to target tourists so they can pickpocket you or try to steal your money. Jokes on them though, bc we never carry cash or anything valuable. We’re not regular tourists. So they wouldn’t get anything from us anyway. To be clear we’ve visited atleast 6 “Pueblo Magicos” and have never been targeted in such a way. Upon leaving we were unable to get anyone by Uber or Didi to come pick us up and we had to figure out how to navigate the bus system to get out of town. “San Juan Teotihuacán” is generally used to describe the town, while “Teotihuacán Pyramids (Piramides de Teotihuacan)” generally refers to the land that houses the pyramids and the surrounding areas where people sell pyramid related trinkets and such. The town includes the pyramids but these two places are absolutely different so just make sure you differentiate when telling your Uber driver where you want to go, as the town is large and not walkable. Also be aware that ride share services like Uber and DiDi do not run in the town so you will need to navigate the bus to get home. The town of San Juan Teotihuacán is a magic town in Mexico City, known for its ruin by the same name. Built between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D., the Teotihuacán Pyramids are characterized by the vast size of its monuments – in particular, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, laid out on geometric and symbolic principles. Teotihuacán de Arista (from Nahuatl: Teotiwakan 'place of apotheosis;[4]City of the Gods'), also known as San Juan Teotihuacán, is a Mexican town and head of the municipality of Teotihuacán, northeast of the State of Mexico, belongs to the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico and is one of the most visited towns of that federative Entity by the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacán. In this municipality is located the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, and borders the towns of San Martín de las Pirámides, San Francisco Mazapa, Santa María Coatlan, San Sebastián Xolalpa, Purificación, San Juan Evangelista and Puxtla. In 2018, it was designated as a Pueblo Mágico (magic town).
