Transcript generation in Resolve is a very nice recent feature addition. However, Resolve only supports a very limited number of languages. In this video I explore the workflow for generating transcripts in the Audacity DAW using the OpenVINO plugin. OpenVINO uses the Whisper language models (by OpenAI). Whisper (and hence the OpenVINO plugin) supports almost 100 languages at the time of writing, for a list of some of those, check out the video. With the new .srt file import feature in Resolve 19, it is possible to import the .srt files generated in Audacity and you can then edit and finalize the video and the transcripts in Resolve. In addition to generating a transcript, you can also generate a translated transcript. At this time you can only translate into English, not into any other language. I tested this with Finnish and was positively surprised by the quality of the translation. Yes, things to edit but still very useful! Turn on subtitles if you want to evaluate the quality of the transcripts created with OpenVINO. The subtitles for the language "English" were made with the large-v3 model. I have made no edits except delete a few stutters at the very end of the video. For my videos, the result is better than the transcripts generated with Resolve (choose subtitle language "English - Australia for the unedited Resolve version) and a lot better than those auto-generated by Youtube (you can also choose those to compare).
