"Come Heavy Sleep", one of the most emblematic songs of John Dowland, used by Benjamin Britten in his Nocturnal for guitar, is played here as a sound-on sound GarageBand recording by Wim Hoogewerf on a guitar with Walter Vogt moveable frets, set in Quarter-comma meantone. This setting corresponds to a small reduction of every fifth in such a way that four fifths in a row produce a pure harmonic major third. For this particular song the row looks like this : Bb - F - C - G - D - A - E - B- F# - C# - G# - D# After D# we would have an A# but this note would be much lower than the Bb. D# - Bb produces the howling wolf fifth! In other songs we need the D# to be a Eb. As you can see here, this is no problem at all. The fret can be reset in a few seconds with great accuracy from one song to another. Thanks for watching!
