Pottery in Parayao Pangasinan

In honor of Women's month I was able to learn about women owned businesses in my province in the Philippines, Pangasinan. This pottery factory was passed down from her family her and her siblings all worked as children. They use clay collected from mountains and then fired in a handmade kiln made of hay, rice husks and good ole fashion matches. The pottery comes in many shapes and sizes, some are used for cooking, water storage, chicken feeders, to measure a serving in 'cantina' restaurants and even for birthdays similar to a pinata. It was an honor meeting these women, they were all beautiful souls and hard workers. Most of them do this work to support their families and started when they were just 14- 16 years old and some are now in their 70s. Some of them start as early as 4 am to beat the heat in the dry season. A special thank you to Mayora Merera for setting this meeting with this factory. Salamat ed sikayon amin.
