Roger Henri Kamiel knight Raveel 羅傑·雷文爾 ( Machelen , 15 July 1921 - Deinze , 30 January 2013 ) was a contemporary Flemish postexpressionistisch painter and maker of ceramics and art. Although his work is not good to place in one of the major art movements, it is considered akin to pop art . Raveel received his first academic program of Hubert Malfait (1898-1971) in Deinze from 1933 to 1937 and, as a free pupil, from 1940 to 1941. That program he set from 1942 to 1945, continuing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent . He also received lessons here Hubert Malfait, giving him the technique Frans Hals and Rubens met. Coping learned perspective of another teacher, Jos Verdegem who spoke words of praise about his work. Raveel himself felt that his first mentor actually the Italian painter, sculptor and architect Giotto (1267-1337) was. Trimmer gave from 1960 to 1973 taught at the academy of Deinze. In 1995 Raveel was ennobled as a knight . In 1948 he founded the group La Relève with Jan Burssens , Kamiel D'Havé and Pierre Vlerick . He felt that he had to look at everything again and things had to be considered in a different light. Influence of data from physics and new technical developments gave him a different perspective on the world. He wanted new worldview visible in his art, which thus had a very special and specific design and content. In his world can be a white shadow as the shadow of the table leg in the color lithograph with coffee table (1970). In the period 1955-1961 Raveel worked mainly abstract . From 1960 to 1962 he made study trips to Italy . In the 60s, he emerged as the pacesetter for new figuration ; along with Raoul De Keyser , Etienne Elias and the Dutchman Reinier Lucassen , he worked in 1966 with ceiling paintings in the castle in Beervelde , Belgium. The abstraction of Piet Mondrian and the expressionism of Vincent van Gogh were sources of inspiration in the development of the painting style that was also known as the "new vision". The basement fresco in the Castle Beervelde, in 1966, with these friends, was a first highlight of the 'new vision', besides Dulcia project of Zottegem in 1969 he was awarded at the Brussels North-South connection contract in 1977 for a mural in the Merode subway station allocated and in 1989 he achieved a spatial mural in the building of the pilotage in Ostend . In the big art event "Beaufort 2003 ', along the Belgian coast, he painted a full tram of De Lijn . Raveel style is characterized by a mix of abstract and figurative painting. In the image of a typical Flemish rural backyard with wax wire and concrete walls for example, displays a full white square (almost the hallmark of a Raveel). These white areas set basically for voids or absence. Motion he again by painting spots, because a moving object can not be displayed with a sharp image of it. Integrated trimming sometimes mirrors in his works, so that the area part of his work could be. He did so under more Trolley to transport Heaven (1968), but also with two opposing mirrors in his project Beervelde. Motifs in bright, vibrant colors were sometimes lined with dark contours. In some works took Raveel real objects in the painting: wooden bedposts in Memories of the death-bed of my mother (1965), even a cage with a live pigeon in 'Neerhof with a live pigeon' (1962). Several times Raveel also made three-dimensional objects, such as cube-shaped Trolley to transport the sky or white wooden swans on the canals of Bruges . Coping not only worked as a painter, but also as a graphic artist . In 1984, for example, released 33 prints of his Genesis, together with the 33 there appropriate poems by Hugo Claus . He also made numerous ceramics. On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the painter was in early 2007 a retrospective exhibition at the Venetian Galleries on the dike to Ostend , entitled The painter speaks. This exhibition was highlighted both the plastic and the literary work of Raveel. Apart from paintings , drawings and prints were objects, installations and artist books on display. Trimmer designed more for the King Park in Ostend permanently established installation Confrontation. Since 1999 he has his own museum in his hometown Machelen-aan-de-Lys , built to a design by architect Stéphane Beel . It consists of an older building that has been restored and a new part. In the new part is housed an important part of his work. The arrangement is listed in chronological order and thus shows the development that made the painter. In the old part there are temporary exhibitions. In the spring of 2010, there was a homage to Zulma, Raveel deceased wife. There were paintings and drawings by the artist with the image of Zulma, his favorite model. After his death, the museum paid tribute to the artist with the exhibition Drawings and objects (and some paintings).
